Origins of the Classical Symphony

Have you ever wondered who wrote symphonies before Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven? Who invented the symphony, and what brought about its popularity? How and where did the symphony develop? In this course, we will survey several works that led to the development of one of the most important genres of classical music. We will also examine how these earlier works influenced the symphonies of the great masters such as Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Presenter: Dr. Thomas Cimarusti This event is free and open to the public, but you must register to attend.
